Our education team works so hard to bring the five-star experience by providing you with tools to take your climbing to the next level and we wanted to shine a little light on the instructors that really give our courses something special. Meet Ivan.
Ivan has been part of our community for a while now and has become such a great asset to our education team teaching Intro to Bouldering courses at the Hive North Shore. Read on to learn more about his climbing life and non-climbing life!
How long have you been climbing?
On and off for about 10 years, but consistently only for the last 5 years.
What’s your favourite style of climbing?
I am a person of extremes, I enjoy either long, easy rambling alpine climbs, or short, technical boulder problems!
What’s your favourite activity that is not climbing?
First Aid! I am a big first aid geek, sharing my passions with others by teaching Wilderness First Aid.
What do you love most about climbing?
I love the exploration that comes along with it; both in taking me to different locales, as well as the self-exploration I have experienced on the rock.
What’s your favourite climbing area?
I really love bouldering at the Grand Wall – I always seem to run into someone I know there.
What’s the one thing you wish you knew before you started climbing?
I was worried about what others would think of me failing on “easy” climbs. I wish I knew that people didn’t care. Folks are as stoked for someone sending their first V1 as they are their first V11. It’s all a personal journey!
What’s your favourite climb you’ve ever done and why?
Titanic! A classic V3 in Squamish that I projected for two years. The feeling of success after sending that one has yet to be matched.
What courses/programs are you teaching at the Hive?
I teach Intro to Bouldering at the Hive! A favourite of mine, because I get to share the love of the sport with others getting into it.
Ivan is currently teaching Intro to Bouldering sessions on Wednesdays at The Hive North Shore. Please note that we also run Intro to Bouldering at The Hive North Shore on Sundays with a different instructor.
