Community Ambassador Spotlight | Mika Hosoi
Mika first started climbing at the age of 7. Last season Mika placed 1st in both bouldering and lead nationals in the Junior category and has competed at the Youth World Championships. Her goal for this year is to climb outside as much as she can in Squamish and other nearby climbing spots.
Outside of climbing, Mika is a student at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
What are your top 3 things on your bucket list?
- Climb in the Red River Gorge.
- Become a tattoo artist.
- Own a motorbike.
What is your favourite book?
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind
What is your favourite style of climbing? Least favourite?
I love awkward volumes, techy slab, and big burly moves. Least favourite? Anything with slopers.
Where is your favourite climbing area?
I went to Maple Canyon, Utah last summer and climbed on some awesome conglomerate rock! That’s probably my favourite climbing spot that I’ve visited.
What inspires you and your climbing?
Watching other climbers and climbing in pretty places!
